Agassi is coming to St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg Open Directorate reported of the most important news, concerning the preparations for the 8th ATP International Series Tournament "St. Petersburg Open".

The 8th ATP International Series Tournament "St. Petersburg Open" will take place in SCC "Peterburgsky" in October 21-27, 2002. The Tournament Directorate reported that one of the world's best players, Andre Agassi, is coming to participate in St. Petersburg Open-2002. This will be the first appearence of Andre Agassi on courts in Russia.

Besides, Sebastien Grosjean (TMC-2001 finalist) will participate in St. Petersburg Open-2002. The negotiations between St. Petersburg Open and Younes El Aynaoui (the winner of three ATP tournaments in 2002) are in a process.

It's essential to notice that the first player to sign the agreement of the participation in St. Petersburg Open-2002, was Yevgeny Kafelnikov. There is no doubt that Marat Safin will follow Kafelnikov's exemple and will come to St. Petersburg to appear on the courts of SCC "Peterburgsky". Mikhail Youzhny, Max Mirny, Andrej Stoljarov and Vladimir Voltchkov are also going to come to participate in St. Petersburg Open-2002.

It was reported at the press-conference that the ATP Board of Directors approved the decision to encrease the prize money up to $ 1,000 000. That is one of the most attractive factors for the players to participate in St. Petersburg Open.

The Directorate of St. Petersburg Open is permanently searching the ways of attracting the attention to the Tournament. One of the factors, showing the strong positions of St. Petersburg Open on the country's and world's tennis arena, is the Directorate's decision to establish Russian Tennis Hall of Fame (RTHF). The most outstanding masters and specialists of tennis in Russia will be granted the membership of RTHF. It is presupposed, that laureats choice will be made publicly, in accordance with the voting results. A wide range of experts will be invited to take part in voting. Not more than 3-5 laureats will be chosen annually. The celebation in honour of RTHF members will be coincided with the Closing Ceremony of St. Petersburg Open tennis tournament.

St. Petersburg Open Directorate is going to pay high attention to the further Tournament's popularisation not only in Russia, but also abroad. St. Petersburg Open Foreign Affairs department has developed a new tennis tourism programme, which provides a unique opportunity for tennis fans from all over the world to have a great tennis and sightseeing adventure. It is presupposed that national tennis federations, the appropriate departments of other ATP tournaments and a number of international companies, offering sports tours to the major sports events, will be among the future partners of this Tennis Tourism Programme. The stable financial position attracts to the Tournament the new representatives of St. Petersburg business elite. The new partnership agreement was signed between the Tournament and Grand Hotel Europe*****. According to the words of Mikhail Rydnik, Tournament Director, this factor is very important. The collaboration agreements have been also signed between St. Petersburg Open and "FINNAIR", "PULKOVO" (the official air carriers for the Tournament), "International Clinic" (the official clinic for the Tournament), "RAMEC" (the official supplier of computering items), "Peterlink", "Metrocom", "CTC 6 channel", "Russkoje Radio", "Sport-Express" newspaper, "Teleport" and "Adgio Image-KONIKA" companies, advertisement souvenirs catalogue "Project 111", "Chupa Chups" company (St. Petersburg Open Junior sponcor), "RBI-Elite Apartments Comlexes", "Orticon" company, "St. Petersburg Taxophones" and a number of other companies.

In conclusion, Tournament Director, Mikhail Rydnik informed the journalists that the ATP Masters Cup-2003 will be held in Houston. According to the words of the ATP representatives the financial factor influenced their decision to held TMC-2003 in Houston. It's known that St. Petersburg reached the final round in this prestigeous tender. Mr. Mikhail Rydnik noticed that it didn't mean that we had stopped keeping in mind the idea to host this Event in Saint-Petersburg.
